B & J Serenader Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, made by Regal , c. 1934
B & J Serenader Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, made by Regal, c. 1934, made in Chicago, sunburst top, natural back and sides finish, mahogany back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, black tolex hard shell case.
Overall length is 40 in. (101.6 cm.), 14 3/16 in. (36 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 in. (10.2 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 1/4 in. (641 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.).
This Regal-made B & J Serenader is an excellent player for a Depression-era budget guitar, very nicely set up with a neck reset, period correct style refret, and excellent repro bridge. There are a few old repairs: the top center seam has been re-sealed and there is an inconspicuous grain split on the treble side waist, but on the whole this is a very well-preserved guitar. This one has an extremely round and well-balanced sound for a smaller body ladder braced guitar; deeper and fuller than most similar instruments. All-in-all a nice example of what the Regal company of Chicago could do when they were contracted to make a good quality instrument! This is an excellent-playing and sounding authentic 1930s period guitar, equipped with a nice modern HSC. Overall Excellent Condition.
