Fender Super-Amp Model 5C4 Tube Amplifier (1954)
Fender Super-Amp Model 5C4 Model Tube Amplifier (1954), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 5530, tweed fabric covering finish.
Height is 18 1/4 in. (46.4 cm.), 21 3/4 in. (55.2 cm.) width, and 10 1/4 in. (26 cm.) in depth at deepest point.
This 1954 wide-panel Fender "Super-Amp" has been expertly "re-tweeded", but is otherwise all original, has just been serviced and sounds great. The amp now has a new 3-prong cable, a NOS set of tubes and a typical cap job to replace leaking originals but no circuit alterations. The original 10" Jensens have been professionally re-coned by Weber Speakers (date coded 220 418), and the original transformers (the power transformer is a Triad 6516) are present as well. The output transformer had frayed/exposed wires, which have been replaced, and the paper is slightly torn, but part of the code is still visible, indicating the correct Triad 1848.
The top-mounted chrome faceplate has a decent amount of wear, but the lettering is still mostly intact. The handle is a repro; as are the brackets and some of the other hardware. The block "Fender" logo plate is however original to the amp. This powerful early '50's Fender really roars with a fairly early onset of tonal saturation. This earlier 5D4 circuit despite having a 20-30 Watt output offers a lot of compression and smooth breakup at fairly low volumes. This one amply shows why the "Super-Amp" was one of the company's signature products in the era, and remains an all-time classic rock'n'roll amp. Very Good + Condition. Very Good + Condition.
