Harmony Sovereign Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1972)
Harmony Sovereign Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1972), made in Chicago, serial # 4169H182, natural lacquer finish, mahogany back, sides and neck, spruce top, rosewood fingerboard, original black chipboard case.
Overall length is 40 1/2 in. (102.9 cm.), 15 3/8 in. (39.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 7/8 in. (9.8 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). Nice overall; not a lot of wear and tear and very little playing time evident. There is some age-related wear-the plastic headstock veneer is laced with cracks, as is common for these guitars, but is still intact. This guitar has had a neckset at some point that was effective at correcting the angle but a bit sloppy cosmetically-there is a fixed 1/2" chip on the treble side of the heel where it meets the rim and a few other small chips marking an enthusiastic neck removal. The guitar itself is quite well made-Harmony's fretwork and wood selection was very good in this period. Overall this sovereign rates as a good player with a very full sound, a good bargain in a solid-top 40+ year old American guitar. Excellent - Condition.
