Gibson ES-350N Arch Top Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1951)

Gibson ES-350N Model Arch Top Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1951), made in USA, natural lacquer finish, laminated maple body, rosewood fretboard and bridge, pink lined brown original hard shell case.
A very nice example of an early 1950's blonde ES-350. This is a 17" fully hollow laminated body electric guitar that occupied a place between the 16" ES-175 and three-pickup ES-5 in Gibson's line, being the most deluxe two-pickup laminated guitar offered. This guitar has black covered P-90 pickups, two volume controls (one for each pickup) on the lower treble bout, and one master tone knob on the cutaway. Controls are 5/8" high barrel knobs, clear with numbers as used by Gibson from 1949 through early 1953. All hardware is gold plated. The trapeze tailpiece has pointed ends and three raised parallelograms.
The pickguard is five ply laminated plastic (b/w/b/w/b) with a beveled edge. The maple body has a single rounded cutaway and two "f" holes, with attractive tiger stripe maple on top and back. The maple neck is a three piece laminate, the center element being a narrow black stripe. The rosewood fretboard is single bound and inlaid with double parallelograms. The headstock is single bound with a mother-of-pearl crown inlaid in the peghead overlay. The back of the peghead is painted black coming to a point just below the nut on the back of the neck. The Kluson Deluxe tuners have plastic "tulip" single ring buttons.
The ES-350 was introduced in 1947 and was Gibson's first electric with a cutaway. It became a double-pickup guitar by 1949 making this an early example. Blonde guitars like this one were produced in smaller numbers than the sunburst version, with only 57 shipped in 1951 Production of the ES-350 was discontinued in 1956,replaced by the thin-body ES-350T. This is a great-playing and sounding guitar well-suited to a variety of Jazz, Pop, Blues or early Rock'n'Roll styles, in addition to being a fine collectible Gibson.
Overall length is 41.75 in. (106 cm.), 17 in. (43.2 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3.5 in. (8.9 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25.375 in. (644 mm.). Excellent overall condition The original clear finish has darkened slightly to amber and shows only light normal checking. Gold plating on tailpiece shows significant wear. Fingerboard, frets and back of neck show hardly any playing wear. There are small areas of touchup on the front and back of the headstock in the area just below the Gibson logo but no breaks or cracks, it looks as if perhaps a hole for a cord was drilled and filled(…?). This is only noticeable on close inspection. No other repairs or alterations. The original brown HSC is in very clean condition as well, and includes a small sticker for the original NYC retailer on the case pocket lid.
