Harmony Lap Steel Electric Guitar, c. 1936, made in Chicago, Painted metal finish, stamped metal body.
A rather rare and very early Chicago-made stamped metal lap steel, one of the first generation of commercial electric guitars. Semi-hollow body assembled from front and back halves with numerous decorative flourishes including an elaborate scroll on the headstock. Utterly distinctive in both style and sound.
Overall length is 36 7/8 in. (93.7 cm.), 10 1/2 in. (26.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 1/16 in. (5.2 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/8 in. (638 mm.). Width of nut is 2 in. (51 mm.). Appears all original except baked-on metal finish everywhere but the bottom is covered with an old layer of added silver paint. Overall Excellent Condition.
