Dobson style closed back 5 String Banjo, most likely made by Buckbee , c. 1880's

Dobson style closed back Model 5 String Banjo, most likely made by Buckbee, c. 1880's, probably New York City, natural varnish finish, grey chipboard case.

A particularly beautiful example of an early closed-back New York banjo, with exceptionally attractive inlay work.

Overall length is 35 1/2 in. (90.2 cm.), 8 3/4 in. (22.2 cm.) diameter head, and 3 1/16 in. (7.8 cm.) deep. Scale length is 24 7/8 in. (632 mm.). Extremely fine original condition, with no major damage or repairs. We seldom find instruments of this era in such unmolested condition. Excellent Condition.
