Fender Jazz Bass Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar (1968)
Fender Jazz Bass Model Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar (1968), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 222965, sunburst finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black tolex hard shell case.
This is the classic early-CBS Jazz bass, a one owner bass played but very well cared for-it remains 100% original. The rosewood fingerboard has binding and pearloid block inlay, the neck finish is the earliest poly with the first transitional gold-edged black logo, without the lacquer overcoat on the headstock face seen in 1969. The body has a strongly colored sunburst finish in the '68 transition style and dark tortoise plastic pickguard. Includes all covers, fingerrest, etc. The neck is dated SEP 68, and the pots date to the 42nd week of 1966-virtually all late '60's Fenders carry '66 pots from a massive CBS buy that year! This bass is a great player with the somewhat brighter attack typical of the later 60's Fenders; currently set up with older flatwound strings for that truly authentic tone.
Overall length is 46 1/2 in. (118.1 cm.), 14 in. (35.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 34 in. (864 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/2 in. (38 mm.). All original and unaltered, this one owner bass has resided here in NY since it was bought new at local landmark Sam Ash in Brooklyn in 1968. This bass has been very well cared for and excellently preserved; all covers and other parts are intact and it has been strung from the first with flatwound strings so the original frets and fingerboard are still in fine shape. There is some armwear on the top body edge, light buckle wear to the back, a casewear spot worn through on the lower edge of the bottom cutaway horn and some chips just above the top edge of the pickguard, possibly from the player's thumbnail; other than these small areas the whole instrument shows minimal wear. An very good player, includes a fairly well-worn original case, solid but with the ends rather battered. Overall Excellent - Condition.
